Resilience

After the avalanche in Nepal, I was at the lowest point in my life. Precisely from there, I reached the peaks I only dreamed I would reach. Today, I believe that the road to the summit is full of difficulties, challenging but possible. Ready to conquer your personal peak?

Hi nice to meet you, Mor Sapir

The Annapurna ridge in Nepal is
considered one of the most beautiful areas in the world. In 2014, that wondrous area revealed to me and dozens of other hikers the power of nature. During a trek up the mountain, a terrible storm struck me and my fellow hikers. The storm took their lives of 43 victims, including four Israeli friends who were full partners in the journey. Due to severe frostbite, I lost my ten fingers, a new and different condition that required me to reinvent myself. I found love and comfort in the climbing route. Along with the life route, the climbing route also entails successes, failures, crashes and growth. Today, six years since the incident, I have been developing non-stop – I am World Champion in climbing, Captain in Reserves and a "Trailblazer" man in every aspect in life.

If those hands can climb, anyone can

After a long rehabilitation in the hospital at the end of which my ten fingers were amputated, I had to re-grow them and from here I got to the climbing wall. A year after I started climbing, I turned to the team coach with the simple understanding that I am not the only climber in the country who climbs without the fingers, I am the only climber in the world who climbs without the fingers. My goal was clear, I wanted to join the Israeli Paralympic climbing team. The coach, who coached the Israeli climbing team in parallel with the Beit Halohem team, replied: "Mor, you can't do that, competitions abroad are different from those in Israel. The level is high and you are not there yet. "In response, I replied:" As a combat engineering fighter, I was taught that any road is an offense, if not, new roads will break out. "Since then, I have not let anything stop me – if no one climbed without Fingers, this is a path I need to pave in. Defining goals is important – it simulates a compass and leads you towards achieving your true aspirations.

Recalculate route

Similar to the climbing route, where you plan step by step, analyze risks and know exactly where the right hand will be raised and where the left hand will reach – so will the life route. For places where the risks are greater I plan different options of action. Several ways that all lead to the same result – if one fails, I can always choose a different path. The path of each of us is different and special. In order to create your personal climbing route, in the life as well, remember to take advantage of your advantages and disadvantages in order to achieve the result you wished for. Reaching the result you aspire to requires you to make a change of mind – passive becoming active. The passive state is characterized by self-pity and standing still with the question of what will happen if… (fail) ?, while the active state forces you to move forward – approaching the goal you aspire to… what if I won't fail?… (and I will succeed!)

My victory

My victory came after years of perseverance and hard work. I started my Paralympic climbing career in 2015 and since then I have climbed cliffs across America and Europe, participated in world climbing competitions and today I am the World champion in Paralympic climbing. I also made a breakthrough in the "normal" climbing world: I participate in the Israeli national bouldering competition and in addition, in 2021 I competed in the national ASA games for students that took place in Eilat. The competition is without category or limitation – that is, I competed against climbers without disabilities and finished 8.
Apart from the world of climbing, after intensive rehabilitation, I returned to serve as a Captain in reserve (combat engineering). In addition, I give lectures in Israel and abroad in which I tell my story. From the rehabilitation process to returning to life. In the lectures you can hear about dealing with the physical and mental difficulties – a story of growth, failure, success, frustration and especially self-fulfillment.
